Relief Print | Jackfruit Steak
Relief print of the Jackfruit tree on handmade paper.
The jackfruit has long been associated with Goan, Konkan, and Malabar regions, with early records dating back to the mid-1500s. Called ponas in Konkani, Jackfruit trees are a staple, abundant, and culturally significant feature of Goan landscape and cuisine.
In recent years, Goa's natural beauty has increasingly been subjected to indiscriminate destruction to make way for real estate development. Making art from local varieties of trees is my attempt at memorialising Goa's vanishing landscape.
I never intended for this print to end up looking like a piece of steak, but that's the beauty of printmaking I suppose. :)
